Western Sydney’s New Dining Precinct
Liverpool was recently designated Sydney’s third CBD, so it seems fitting it’s going to be the home of its latest dining precinct. The Paper Mill Food will launch on August 10, with four restaurants open seven days a week from breakfast to dinner.
Restaurants at the south-west hub include Shepherd’s Lane Cafe and Dessert Bar; Georgie’s Pizza and Bar; Charcoal Joe’s Lebanese Chicken; and The Firepit Meat and Seafood, which will use charcoal and a woodfired oven to cook. Menus will honour the cultural diversity of the area, about 27 kilometres from the CBD, and there will be options to suit all budgets, plus delivery and takeaway options.
A heritage building from 1868 has been restored by designer Paul Papadopoulos from creative agency DS17 (Nour, Beta, Alpha). It was once Australia’s largest paper mill, and Papadopoulos has retained period features including the building’s original brickwork, adding steel, glass and stone accents to modernise the space. There’s bespoke timber joinery, Carrara marble and cast-iron sculptures resembling ovens from the 19th century, as well as a handmade mosaic floor.
“There is nothing in Western Sydney like The Paper Mill Food,” general manager Jason Chow (ex-Aria and Chiswick) said in a statement. “We spent considerable time researching what we were going to put into this space, as we wanted to make sure it was what the community of Liverpool and greater Western Sydney have been wanting and deserve. We’re excited to open with our take on Lebanese chicken, pizza, meats grilled over charcoal, and coffee and pastries.”
The space seats 570 people, plus there are several private and semi-private function spaces for 12 to 120 people. It’s part of a new mixed-use development on the banks of the George River.
The Paper Mill Food is slated to open on August 10.
